Legendary Fashion photographer Bill Cunningham passed away last month. The corner of East 57th Street and 5th Avenue has been named after him.
Bill Cunningham has captured some of his most iconic shots from this corner while working for The New York Times. This new street name was unveiled at a ceremony yesterday afternoon by deputy mayor Alicia Glenn, the former curator of the Met’s Costume Institute, Harold Koda, and the executive editor of the Times, and Dean Baquet, in front of the Louis Vuitton store at that corner.
The renaming of the street will however only be temporary as permanent changes require a more complicated process.
